Devoted For Destruction.
Devoted For Destruction.
Do not desire “Things that are Devoted For Destruction”.
But the Israelites were “unfaithful” in regard to the “devoted things”; Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, “took some of them”. So the Lord’s anger burned against Israel. (Joshua 7:1)
And Joshua said, “Alas, sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan! (Joshua 7:7)
God Expects and Demands Full Obedience;
Partial Obedience is Full Disobedience; “It’s Still Sin”, bringing God’s Wrath.
In our Daily Nugget
The Lord told the Israelites to destroy all the things of the enemy; these things were “devoted for destruction” by the Lord. The Lord is teaching us that “All That Glitter Is Not Gold”; in other words, just because something looks good or is desirable, does not mean that it is good for us. Wisdom says, “Run Everything Through The Word”, “Then” we will know if it is good for us or not.
Devoted For Destruction - It meant devoting wicked cities or items completely to God by destroying them as an “act of holy judgement”, demonstrating His Absolute Sovereignty. (The whole nation was punished for the sins of one man.)
Joshua did not understand why “They Could Not Win”,
why “Things Did Not Go Well For Them”. Look at what the Lord said.
The Lord said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? Israel has sinned: they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken the “devoted things”; “they have lied”, “they have put them with their own possessions”. That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because “They Have Been Made Liable For Destruction”. I will not be with you anymore “unless you destroy whatever among you is Devoted To Destruction”. (Joshua 7:10-12).
Repent and be Saved!
The Israelite who stole the Devoted Things, looked around and knew that no one was looking and no one would know that he had stolen the devoted things and mixed them with his things. “There Is No Such Thing As A Secret”!
The World is Filled with Devoted Things that Glitter and are Desirable, but not good,
“Run 'Everything' Through The Word, Obey The Word,
and You’ll be Safe".
