I Lied.
I Lied.
But “I Am Not A Liar”.
Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said. But he “denied it before them all”. I don’t know what you’re talking about, he said. Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth”. He denied it again, with an oath: I don’t know the man! After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away”. Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man”!
(Matthew 26:69-74)
Peter lied, he “Denied” knowing Jesus, three times.
But Peter was not a liar, even though he lied, “Peter Was A Believer”.
Lie – An intentional act of deception, either by word or deed.
Liar – A person who depends on lying and lying is a lifestyle for them.
On one day Peter had the “courage” to use his sword to defend Jesus; on another day “fear” led Peter to “deny” that he even knew Jesus. Peter repented and never lied again concerning his knowledge of Jesus. Peter asked to be crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to die in the same way as Jesus.
Our God is a God of Grace and Mercy; He knows our heart/mind; beyond what we do or say. We need to be people of Grace and Mercy like Jesus. Even though Peter denied, three times, that he didn’t know Jesus, Jesus had a “great work” for him to do. Jesus knew that Peter knew him.
Reputations are made by many acts and lost by one act; this is not a fair way to measure people, but this is man’s way of measuring people. People are surprised when a person who is not a liar lies; people are not surprised when a person who is a liar lies. People are just sick of hearing liars lie. God’s judgement of these two people is not the same; one is wicked and evil, and one is not wicked and evil.
I lied because I am a liar; I lied because I was afraid.
People Make Mistakes, but Mistakes Don’t Make People!
“Trust” everything to God; Trusting God is protection from “Depending on Lies”!
